Five Things To Bring To A Picnic

May 6th, 2011 Anna Albee

Planning a picnic can seem easy at first. You might think it's all about taking food, finding a great location for it and that's all. But you will start to think otherwise when the day comes and you go for the picnic on that quick, easy plan. You may not realize what you need for it to be successful until the need arises. In order to help, here is a list of things you should not forget to bring with you:

The Blanket

This is probably the most important thing for the picnic. If you forget the blanket it means you will have to sit on plain grass or find some rocks to sit on. This is not any fun and may expose you to some biting insects, irritating grass or even dog poo(and that is just the fairly obscene stuff you can find on public property)!

Your food will also be accessible to insects and this might turn out to be a nightmare and completely ruin the mood. Find a nice waterproof blanket that is easy to carry around.

The Basket

Chances of forgetting this might seem slim but it can be overlooked. Not carrying a nice stable basket can ruin the location with used stuff and make it difficult to move around with the things you carried for the picnic. In case you are going to carry fluid -which is very necessary - you need a waterproof basket. This will ensure that any leaks do not go onto the blanket and ruin the resting place.

Insecticide

Bugs can really bug you during the picnic and even bring it to a halt. You are intruding their place so you can't blame them; and they are likely to attack. Besides most insects will be attracted by the scent of food and just start to show around on the blanket. Flying insects like mosquitoes can also be a problem. When you are choosing a spot, try to find a place with minimum insects. And bring the insecticide or bug repelling candles to keep them away.

Drinks

After eating the fun food or when the weather changes to warmer you start to realize how important drinks are. The last thing you want is to continue the picnic with a dry mouth and feeling all hot and uncomfortable. Do not forget to bring water, picnics involve a lot of talking so you can't have a dry mouth. You also need to wash down the food you've had. On top of water you can try homemade juices or even wine if you drink alcohol.

Games

When the food is gone and there is nothing more to talk about, other ways to keep the picnic enjoyable should be sought. Football always works if the picnic was not for a romantic date for two people. But this might sound too energy consuming for a picnic. So a better option might be board games like scrabble or pictionary. Bringing a deck of cards is also a good way to pass time relaxing in the great outdoors.
