How To Prevent Dog Attacks with Self Defense Products -The Top Three Ways

Apr 3rd, 2011 Jack Krohn

Every year tens of millions of Americans who love their exercise by walking, running or jogging alone or with a friend or their own dog are attacked by a dog or pack of dogs. To me there is little else as terrifying as seeing a dog charging my way. You wouldn't know unless you have experienced it. I have and it still chills down my spine every time I see a dog coming towards me.

Every year 4.7 million Americans get bit by a dog with over 800,000 needing medical treatment. Almost half of those are kids. Of those needing treatment almost half require an emergency room.

You can take some precautionary steps by being cautious around dogs; never turning your back and running away; never approach a strange dog without letting him smell you first and don't mess with a dog while he is eating.

As a further precaution there are three self defense products that work to help protect you while you are out and about with or without your dog.

1.Telescopic Stun Baton-Without a doubt the best tool for self defense against dog attacks is this baton that extends to 21.5 inches from 13 inches. Once it is extended the extension is electrified with 800,000 volts of hair raising power. It has a light, a loud 120 db alarm and is rechargeable saving you money.

2.Electronic Dog Repeller-This ultrasonic dog chaser uses an uncomfortable frequency sound in the 20,000 to 25,000 Hz range to chase dogs away. A super bright flashing LED light can confuse charging dogs too. The sound is only heard by the dogs and is not harmful.

3.Canine Spray-Mace brand developed this less potent OC concentration especially for dogs. It is even EPA approved.

The dog repeller and canine sprays don't work all the time on aggressive dogs like pit bulls and dobermans. The telescopic stun baton does work on these more aggressive breeds.

To be honest I don't have much sympathy for dogs that are out running around loose. I know full well leash laws are in almost very community but talk about worthless laws! And while the EPA may be concerned about harming dogs, a charging dog presents a bigger concern to me.

The lower concentration of OC in the canine spray works okay and is good for some states that have restrictions on pepper sprays. For others don't loose sight of what you are trying to do-protect yourself from a charging dog.

Follow those tips and get some protection so you can walk, run or jog in peace.
